As you can see June is pretty filled with meetups, but I’m sure some of you will find time to visit a few of these exhibitions. Has anyone already been to the big exhibition in the Tate Modern? Read the rest of this entry »
(Note: I’m (Lorissa) a tad late in posting this so this is more a month of Sundays in June, minus this last weekend.)
Hi everyone,
Lor contacted me about possibly leading another photoblogger meetup like the ones I did awhile back. If you weren’t around then, I’m Eric and I’ve been working on a project for the past 4 years of walking all of London reachable by Tube. I’ve got about 4000+ images at my site organised by the section of london. If you want to see the kind of work I do its here: http://www.curiouslyincongruous
Anyway, I suggested the following project to her and to you if you’re interested. It covers 4 meetups in June, one each Sunday. I’m calling it a Month of Sundays.
The idea is to that each Sunday in June anyone interested would join me in a photo-walk around the area of a major football stadium in London and spend a bunch of hours photographing within the sphere of influence of that one stadium, not just the stadium proper but what ever seems to be interesting within their area of influence (loosely interpreted).
I’ve chosen the following stadiums (Stadia?) because I have found their surroundings particularly interesting:
White Hart Lane (Tottenham Hotspur) in North East London (8 June)
Emarites Stadium (Arsenal) in North London (15 June)
Wembley and the industrial area behind it (22 June)
Boleyn Stadium (West Ham United) in East London (30 June)
Each Sunday we’d meet up at 12:30 at a meeting point which I’ll post closer to the meetup day (probably the closest tube station). We’d then walk around for a few hours taking photos for maybe 3 or hours or so and then either break up or go out for some refreshments.
If you have any suggestions or questions, post them below and I’ll get back to you. I’d appreciate it if you’d let me know if you’re going to join me on any particular Sunday at least a few days ahead of time by dropping me an email: alldaybreakfast at mac dot com so I have some idea of what to expect. Also let me know your mobile number and I’ll send you mine in a return email.
Look forward to seeing you on one of these walks.
Eric
Really short notice I know…and even shorter notice, I won’t have this shoot confirmed until first thing in the morning!
But if it happens, I might need an assistant tomorrow in London. The assistant should know a little bit about using and setting up studio lights.
You would need to be in Berners Street, London at 12.00pm. It would be around 4 hours work, setting up two studio lights, adjusting the power on the lights, moving lights, packing up lights etc.
I have a budget of £100 for you.
Let me know if anyone might be interested.
Cheers.
Andy
Last year’s Europe Photobloggers meetup in Berlin was great fun, and it was then announced that this year the meetup is going to be held in Barcelona. The Barcelona Photobloggers group seems really well organized, and so I’m pretty sure that this is going to be another great event.
The Europe Photobloggers Meetup 2008 will be held from 5 to 7 September, and for more information and discussion you can head over to the EPB website.
If you are looking for online tutorials to improve your photography you may want to check out Kelby Training. There seem to be some really interesting tutorials from Joe McNally that could be worth watching, as well some on Photoshop by Scott Kelby himself. It’s not free however, but could be worth the monthly fee. If anyone has an account and uses it, let us know your thoughts.
Jane Bown is widely acknowledged as one of the finest portrait photographers of her generation.
The photographs are of a time gone by representing her early work. The candidness of the images underpin her gift of capturing the moment and thus her pictures are an inspiration even for todays photographer. Whilst similarities to Henry Cartier Bresson are often cited these are purely coincidental.
“The Observer” published its first Jane Bown photograph in December 1949, beginning a romance between Britain’s oldest Sunday paper and the country’s most loved photographer that still flourishes. Through the 1950’s her role developed. She was not employed purely for portraiture. Her love is for reportage.

Also in the month of May there is lots to see in the galleries around London. Read the rest of this entry »
I recently received a copy of Derelict London by Paul Talling and I’ve been captivated by the various fantastically neglected places he has photographed. As someone who loves all things decayed, in disrepair and yes, derelict, this book got me rather excited about some potential places to photograph. Talling has some great photos along with some interesting tidbits about each place, and he’s inspired me to try to see some of these places myself. Here are a few places that caught my eye:
And these are just a few of the spots (of course some of these may already be redeveloped into apartments that most people can’t afford). Talling does a great job of giving the reader a real glimpse into the “other side” of London.
See more at his website: DerelictLondon.com (I do wish the website were better though, or at least easier to reference certain shots).
Anyone interested in maybe checking out a derelict spot or two as a future meet up?
Location - Cambridge
Time - 9.00am at Kings Cross Station or 10.15 at Cambridge station.
Date - 16th or 17th or 18th May
A day in Cambridge! General itinerary will be to shoot a few colleges / street life, pub for lunch then more shooting afterwards.
If you are interested, please leave a comment so we can gage whether to go ahead with organising this.
Be the first to know when the next meet up is. We don't share emails (we're stingy like that).
