Well, it seems most folks are up for a meet up in Oxford - yayness! I’ve updated the poll so you can now vote for the dates. A little info on what’s happening in Oxford on those days:
Sunday, July 1st (Cowley Road Carnival)
This is a huge event each year apparently. It looks like a lot of fun from past years.
Saturday, July 7th (Alice’s Day)
One golden afternoon on 4th July 1862 Charles Dodgson, an Oxford don, took Alice Liddell and her sisters on a boating picnic up the River Thames from Folly Bridge to Godstow. To amuse them he told a story - about a white rabbit and a queen of hearts, a mock turtle and a mad hatter, and a little girl who tumbled down a rabbit hole into Wonderland. The story so delighted the 10 year-old Alice that she begged him to write it down. The result was the immortal Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, which was published in 1865 under the pen name Lewis Carroll.
A fun day to celebrate Alice in Wonderland. Various events are going on - most aimed at kids of course. There is a talk at the Oxford Playhouse on the Photography of Lewis Carroll.
Saturday, July 14th (Oxford PRIDE)
Oxford PRIDE day. Apparently there are a few acts going on as well.
While I’m on the topic of meet-ups, Saturday, June 30th is London Pride. If you are up for a meet-up, please leave a comment here or contact us directly so we can organise a time and place. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it, but I’m happy to try and get the detials sorted for others.
