28 Stories showcases exciting and innovate work by graduates of the MA Photojournalism & Documentary Photography at LCC’s brand new Gallery Spaces. In keeping with the very best documentary work, much of the work on show by the photographers from this year’s course is the result of a deep engagement and involvement with their subject matter. Their work is diverse in theme, style and medium, exploring the human condition with intelligence and wit in both traditional and unconventional ways. The more conceptual work is smart, refreshingly unpretentious and immediately accessible.

There is a private view on December 9th from 6pm-10pm with professor David Campbell, Telegraph picture editor & photo critic, Lucy Davies, and photographers Simon Norfolk and Ed Kashi in conversation about “The New Ecology of Photojournalism.”

“This is my Habitat” Competition

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

A chance photographs to have your photos exhibited in Habitat stores across the country. If you have a lovely home to share, then this may be of interest: the ‘this is my Habitat’ competition is inviting people across the UK to take their cameras and show them what makes their house a home.

Helena Christensen, who fronts Habitat’s ‘this is my Habitat’ campaign will choose the overall winner with a panel of judges. The competition has been designed to give fans of design and interiors a platform to share with others their own style and show the Great British public what inspires them. The public will vote for their favourite home via the campaign website www.thisismyhabitat.co.uk before Helena and the panel of judges vote.

The overall winner will become the next face of Habitat’s ‘this is my Habitat’ campaign. The prize includes a photo shoot in London, an overnight stay at a 5* star London hotel, plus £1,000 worth of Habitat vouchers. A selection of photographs will be exhibited in Habitat stores across the country next year, as well as online, until the winner is announced in February. There will also be £100 Habitat vouchers available for 34 runners up, one from each Habitat store in the UK.

All entrants need to do is upload a photograph of themselves in a room which best represents their sense of style and eye for interiors - accompanied by a short explanation of what makes that space so special.

Shoot Spitalfields Photography Treasure Hunt

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Sunday 11th October 2009

A chance to capture the heart of Spitalfields in all its Sunday glory at the last official Shoot event of the year. Held in conjunction with photomonth, the largest UK photography festival, Shoot Experience heads back to its East London roots. The photographic treasure hunt will offer teams the opportunity to shoot the hustle and bustle of this cutting-edge area. Tried and tested through our annual Shoot London event at Tate Modern, the event is suitable for all ages and no experience in photography is necessary to enjoy the event - all that is required is creativity and enthusiasm. ‘The concept of the event is excellent, and it was really fun.’

Participants are invited to sign up to the event in teams of two to four members. At the start of the day, teams are given eight clues leading to different destinations in and around Spitalfields. The teams spend the day exploring the area, solving the given clues and constructing creative photos as their answers, capturing this unique and dynamic area as they go. Once they’ve completed all clues, teams return to Toynbee Studios to submit their photos, and then relax as a slideshow of the day’s images commences and the judging of entries gets underway. There is an awards ceremony to finish the day and prizes are given for a number of different categories such as Best Overall Photo and Most Creative Photo.

Date: Sunday 11th October
Venue: Toynbee Studios, 28 Commercial Street, London, E1 6AB
Time: 11.15am-6.30pm
Cost: £15 per person
