Save Polaroid

As everyone probably knows already, earlier this year Polaroid announced that they would discontinue production of all instant film. It’s a sad thought really. I know digital is much more accessible nowadays, and cheaper in many ways, but it is sad to see this dying out. I have no skills with a Polaroid, but I know a number of people who are exceptional and produce beautiful photos.

So, if you are a lover of instant film, head over to www.savepolaroid.com and join in. As the site says,

“This site is not about saving Polaroid, the company, rather the remarkable invention of Edwin Land, the instant film that made Polaroid a household name. “

Many folks will argue that film in general is on borrowed time already, but I’d hate to think that. Maybe I’m just being naive.

One Response to “Save Polaroid”

  1. DICKSDAILY says:

It was a very sad - if not unexpected - day when this news came through. I hate to think that my little lad will grow up in a world where he’ll never see a polaroid in action - here that clunk-wizz and wait to see whether you’ve got the shot - then find out there’s a big blurry, splodge somewhere …… very sad ……

I’m no film evangelist but over the last few years of using film rather than digital my love of photography has grown ten fold. The fact that you have no immediate feedback as to what you’ve taken means you spend much longer composing the shot and also looking for the ‘right’ shot. For me photography is as much about getting out and looking at things as it is taking a picture of it and with film I never get any of those ‘oh i’m just taking sh*t photos today - why bother’ days …..

Anyway - RIP Polaroid - at least i’ve a large stash of film for my holgaroid stacked away in the fridge……
